Chapter Info

The University of Southern California’s chapter of Alpha Phi Omega, the Alpha Kappa chapter, was founded in June of 1934. Since then, APO has remained active on the USC campus almost uninterruptedly, with a brief loss of charter (due to lack of membership) in the early 90s.

On campus, APO has helped support many local events such as Friends and Neighbors Day, Spirits at Troy, Swim with Mike, and numerous fund raising drives. In the past, APO has also held fundraises for elementary schools with programs like the 4-square tournament, and older fundraisers such as the Ugly Man contest, dressing men up as women and raising the most money for being, well, ugly!

Off campus, APO’s impact on the community is not rivaled by any other group. Inner city gardening programs, beach cleanups, highway cleanups, reading to kids, and habitats for humanity are only a few of the many diverse programs with which APO is involved. In fact, many members choose to exceed, and by far exceed, the 20 hours minimum requirement for hours, with special awards for 24, 50 and 100 hours in a semester.

Recently, we were awarded the United States Presidential award for Service. Signed by George W. Bush, the award thanks the Alpha Kappa chapter for it’s continued efforts in community service, both on and off campus.
