What Is APO

Alpha Phi Omega, or APO, is a national community service fraternity, derived from the Boy scouts of America, and reflects this and it’s goals in its official purpose:

The purpose of the fraternity is to assemble college students in a national service fraternity in the fellowship of principles derived from the Scout Oath and Scout Law of the Boy Scouts of America; to develop leadership, to promote friendship, and to provide service to humanity; and to further freedom that is our national, educational, and intellectual heritage.

As one can see, APO places a great amount of effort into its 3 cardinal principles: Leadership, Fellowship, and Service.

In terms of leadership development, APO has a great wealth of opportunities. One can elevate their position within the chapter from general member to president of the fraternity. Conferences, including section, regional and national, allow for one to learn and grow as a member of the fraternity as well. The LEADS program offers a 5 session which will prepare you for APO leadership, as well as leadership throughout your life.

Fellowship is also a primary reason people join APO. Community service can be done nearly everywhere on our campus, or through many different groups. What APO offers is a chance to do that service with people whom you can grow closely with. Fellowship is encouraged through a Big brother/Little brother program, where one will have an active member mentor them and help them accomplish their requirements (and often shower them with gifts) so that they one day can be come an active brother.

While all of this is well and good, Service is the backbone of Alpha Phi Omega. Everyone who joins APO is committed to and wants to provide service for any range of people. Each chapter does its own service, and for more information on Alpha Kappa’s events, please see our chapter info.
